Study Tips with Techtorium

Study is not always easy but with exams coming up soon it’s a good idea to have a strategy in place. We’ve put together a list of study tips to help you get the best out of your time.

  1. Start Early & Plan Backwards
  • Know your exam dates, then plan backwards to allocate time per subject and topic.
  • Use a revision timetable to structure your study time.
  1. Use Active Recall
  • Don’t just re-read notes – test yourself regularly.
  • Use flashcards. (write everything you remember on a topic from memory).
  1. Spaced Repetition
  • Revisit topics multiple times over increasing intervals.
  • Combine this with active recall to strengthen memory long-term.
  1. Prioritise Weak Areas
  • Spend more time on topics you find difficult – it’s easy to revise what you’re already good at, but it won’t improve your overall score.
  1. Practice Past Papers
  • Get used to exam-style questions and timing.
  • Mark your answers using official mark schemes to understand how examiners award points.
  1. Simulate Exam Conditions
  • Practice in a quiet space, without notes, and under timed conditions to reduce exam-day anxiety.
  1. Teach Someone Else
  • Explaining a concept to someone else (or even to yourself out loud) is one of the best ways to deepen understanding.
  1. Look After Your Body & Brain
  • Sleep: Aim for 7–9 hours per night.
  • Nutrition: Eat regularly and drink water – avoid excess sugar and caffeine.
  • Exercise: Regular light exercise can improve focus and reduce stress.
  1. Minimise Distractions
  • Keep your phone in another room to stay on task.
  1. Avoid Burnout
  • Build in breaks (use the Pomodoro Technique – 25 mins study, 5 min break).
  • Don’t study all day, every day – balance is key!

Bonus Study Tips:

  • Group Study: Useful for motivation and bouncing ideas off others – but only if the group stays focused.
  • Use Multiple Resources: Textbooks & Revision guides.
  • Stay Positive: Focus on progress, not perfection.
