Another Successful Event – TechTalk for TechWeek 2019

Last week Techtorium hosted TechTalk, in collaboration with TechWeek 2019, an event designed for IT industry experts, educators, and enthusiasts to come together, discover and share new ideas around technology and network with some of the best technical minds in New Zealand.

The topic, The current IT Skill shortage in New Zealand. The event was a huge success, with speakers from all backgrounds including Ben Liebert, Founder of Blackball Software and author of  “How to know if your software developer is killing you” discussing the importance of soft skills and communication to become a modern software developer.

Mike Clentworth, Head of Solutions Delivery at KiwiBank discussion “Global technology trends and their impact on enterprise technology skillset demand” provided a whistle-stop tour of the evolution of Cloud computing and platform business models.

Lisa Cooley, Business Manager at Absolute IT, offering a recruiters perspective (and solutions) to “The IT skills shortage in NZ” and why New Zealand is finding it particularly hard to fill those IT roles.

Finally, Techtorium’s very own, Jan Hutchinson speaking from an IT educator’s perspective, offering advice to employers on how they can support and grow IT students to become the employees they need.

To top the night off, the ever-energetic and inspiring Colart Miles to lead the discussions, ensuring for a fun-filled, exciting, and memorable event, especially with his variation of Rock, Paper, Scissors with Grandma, Ninja, Tiger. Here are a few photos of the night.
